The Data State Inspectorate is a direct administrative institution under the supervision of the Cabinet of Ministers in accordance with Section 3 of the Law on the processing of personal data and is a supervisory authority for the processing of personal data within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation. The Authority carries out the tasks laid down in the General Data Protection Regulation and other laws and regulations in the field of the processing of personal data.
The Data State Inspectorate was established on the basis of the now-defunct Personal Data Protection Law and commenced its activities on 1 January 2001. The Data State Inspectorate operates as a functionally independent authority in its activities, as provided for in Article 52 of the General Data Protection Regulation.
